Ja, Nein, Vielleicht

Back in 2011 during my work at the ZKM | Centre for Art and Media, I was invited to do a show at the Poly Produzentengalerie e.V. in Karlsruhe. Fascinated by Gödel’s incompleteness theorems postulating the inherent limitations of every formal axiomatic system, I came up with the idea of the exhibition theme: „Yes, No, Perhaps“. Undecidable questions result in philosophical, religious and artistic discussions that stand outside the logical universe inherent to computer systems. Undecidable questions do not get answered by systematizing or breaking down the problem into smaller problems. The unsure perhaps makes humans being humans and truly distinguishes us from machines. The exhibition featured four smaller pieces created by me for the art space during 2011.

„Black Box“ with switch and lightbulb inside.
„Undo“, Mapped projection on font limited to 3×3 pixels or 6×6 subpixels per character.
„Do you love me?“, Two iPads encoding text to sound signals and decoding the sounds to communicate. Asking the same question over and over, deciding for an answer by the quality of the acoustic analysis.
„R.U.R. Rossum’s Universal Robots“, Computer Installation, Theatre play by Karel Čapek (1921) read by different speech synthesized voices for each character.
